According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the agency has granted about 1500 U.S. patents to Ford employees this year, more than any other automaker.
This is 25% higher than last year.
Worldwide, Ford's total number of patents reached 3200 this year, including 1700 patents obtained in other countries.
Worldwide, Ford noted that in 2016, the company's employees have submitted more than 8000 new inventions, an increase of 40% over last year and more than 90% over 2014.
As of early December, more than 5500 Ford employees had filed disclosures, including more than 2200 first-time inventors.
Since the beginning of 2015, more than 4000 first-time inventors have filed applications.
