Nanjing Hua News: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently granted Apple a device patent called "Head-mounted Display Device for Portable Electronic Devices" with the patent number 9482869.
Some of the details described in the patent seem to be similar to the Samsung Gear VR device, but Apple's device is more suitable for some small mobile phones and some users who wear glasses.
Compared with Gear VR, which relies on smartphone hardware to provide VR experience, the device itself is equipped with a lens, proximity sensor, touchpad, a Home key, return key and focus knob. When in use, the phone will be placed in a slot in front of the device and fixed in front of the lens. The sound will come out via the phone's headphone jack, and the VR device itself will not sound.
The device is designed for some small-screen mobile phones. If the mobile phone screen is too large, the displayed content will be smaller than the actual screen size and the resolution will be compromised.
It is also shown in the patent document that the system is not limited to displaying only one frame of image, and in some cases, in order to present a more three-dimensional visual effect, a multi-frame image (double-frame image) can also be displayed. In this case, multiple frames of images may be displayed in different places on the screen, and the superposition of these images will bring better viewing effect to the user.
In order to allow users to listen to the audio from the mobile phone, the earphone cable will be arranged along the temple and will be fixed by straps. The device is equipped with interfaces and slots to allow the connection of external devices. In addition, there are buttons for navigation, volume and display adjustment. The device is equipped with a processor, sensor, memory, circuit and rechargeable battery under the lens. The patent drawings also show that the device can be operated by remote control.
