Nanjing Huaxun News: the "patent war" between Apple and Samsung has lasted for several years, and now the lawsuit has reached the Supreme Court of the United States. Supreme Court judges will hear both sides on the 11th local time on how much compensation Samsung should pay for infringing Apple's mobile phone design patent.
Agence France-Presse said that this is the first time that the US Supreme Court has heard a design patent dispute in more than a century, and the outside world is highly concerned about how the Supreme Court will strike a balance between technological innovation and the protection of intellectual property rights. The court is expected to deliver its verdict in June next year.
According to Nanjing Huaxun US patent, in 2011, Apple filed a lawsuit in a federal court in California on the grounds that Samsung smartphones copied Apple products. In 2012, the court ruled that Samsung products infringed a number of Apple patents and trade dress, should pay Apple $1.05 billion. Subsequently, after Samsung argued, the court reduced the compensation to $0.548 billion in December 2015, but Samsung still believed that it should not pay $0.399 billion of the compensation, so it filed a request to the Supreme Court to reject the ruling on the grounds that the patent involved in infringement only played a partial role in a complex product, and the company should not pay all the profits of the infringing product. Apple believes that Samsung's punishment is reasonable.
