The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved 48 new patents from Apple on Tuesday, covering inventions related to human-computer interfaces, especially multi-user interfaces.
Among them, the patent number 9454225 is particularly eye-catching. The patent is called "gaze-based display operation". The patent determines the direction of the user's gaze by receiving a computerized image of the user's eye, and then determines the corresponding area on the screen according to the direction of the gaze, and operates on the content in the area.
Apple's patent, which was filed in the third quarter of 2013 but was not approved until Tuesday, was signed by engineers from an Israeli PrimeSense company that Apple had previously acquired.
It is worth noting that Nanjing Hua Xun's US patent found that Apple also applied for a batch of new patents on screen control in May this year. At that time, the 23 patents approved mainly focused on finger control, including "gaze-based display operation" and "pointing-based display interaction" similar to "pointing-based display interaction".
With the approval of Apple's two patents, Apple has taken another step closer to controlling on-screen menus and content through gestures and gaze in mid-air on an iMac screen or TV.
