Nanjing Hua News: Following OPPO, vivo and Qualcomm announced yesterday that they had reached a new 3G/4G China patent license agreement. According to the terms of the agreement, Qualcomm granted vivo a paid patent license to develop, manufacture and sell 3G WCDMA and CDMA 2000 and 4G LTE (including "three-mode" GSM, TD-SCDMA and LTE-TDD) complete equipment used in China, and vivo paid the patent fees consistent with the terms of the rectification measures previously submitted by Qualcomm to the National Development and Reform Commission.
According to the previous ranking of smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2016 released by IDC, the top five manufacturers are Samsung, Apple, Huawei, OPPO and vivo. With vivo and Qualcomm reached a new patent licensing agreement, which means that China's top three mobile phone manufacturers are invested in the Qualcomm camp.
Regarding the signing of the patent licensing agreement, Shi Yujian, vice president of vivo, said: "The license agreement will enable us to obtain Qualcomm's latest technology and support us to continue to create innovative high quality terminals for our customers."
In fact, not only OPPO and vivo, but also more than 100 major domestic manufacturers including ZTE, Huawei, Xiaomi, Qiku, Lenovo, TCL, Haier, etc. have successively re-reached patent license agreements with Qualcomm, and most of these brands use Qualcomm Xiaolong processors.
It is reported that Qualcomm's business model is mainly composed of two parts, namely the authorization of patented technology and the sale of processors. Many domestic mobile phone manufacturers have encountered patent disputes on the road to internationalization. The main reason is the authorization of patented technology, such as Xiaomi in India. Sue by Ericsson. In recent years, domestic mobile phones have grown rapidly, but they are still very scarce in terms of core patents.
Nanjing Hua Xun US patent experts also pointed out that OPPO and vivo have signed patent licenses one after another, a large part of the reason is to promote internationalization. In recent years, OPPO and vivo, which focus on offline channels, have grown rapidly. However, as the Chinese market is saturated and the market has entered a period of steady development, OPPO and vivo will definitely not be able to rely solely on the Chinese market to maintain rapid growth. They must accelerate the advancement of the international market, and the premise of internationalization is to solve the patent problem.
